How To Unlock Moto G 2nd generation Bootloader

Moto G(2014) or also called as Moto G 2nd Generation is  launched in September 2014 after huge success of  the original Moto G(2013) or known as Moto G 1st Generation.

Moto G 2nd Generation is an incredible Android Smatphone with its 5” HD LCD IPS screen, coated with Gorilla Glass 3 packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1GB RAM,embedded 2070 mAh battery with inbuilt 16GB ROM and expandable to 32GB with external SD card it is come with Android Sweetest Operating System Android L(5.0.2).

But you are not happy with this feature and want to take its full potential advantage then you to root your  Moto G2.Before Start  for root process we have to Unlock Moto G2 bootloader.

Bootloader? What is this? Well If you are new to world of Android Custom ROM,rooting etc then this term might confusing for you have a look  at what is bootloader?


What is Bootloader?

Bootloader is a code that is run before OS start.This code contain all the instructions to boot operating system kernel.All Manufacturers have their own bootloader code.

Prerequisites for this tutorial

  1. Moto G2 Android Phone.
  2. Battery must be charged upto 50%.
  3. Backup all Data.
  4. USB drivers Download from here Download
  5. Download android sdk Download SDK

Steps to Unlock Bootloader

1. Install USB Driver and Android SDK

2.Go to Motorola Website Click Here

3.Choose Moto g2 region/carrier and click on unlock

4.Now you will redirected to Motorola Unlocking page follow their simple step

5.Now you have to sing in or sign up if you don’t have account

6.After Sign in Switch off your phone and connect to the computer with a USB cable

7.Now press and hold Power button and Volume Down Button together and release after 10 sec

8.Now go to folder “Android SDK” (For example: “C:Android SDKsdkplatform-tools“)


9.Press “Left Shift + Right Click” then select Open command window here


10.Now in Command Window type below command

$ fastboot oem get_unlock_data

11.You will get code in command window

12.Now copy the unique unlock code from command looks like below code

Example: On a Windows Desktop, the returned string format would be$ fastboot oem get_unlock_data
(bootloader) 0A40040192024205#4C4D3556313230
(bootloader) 30373731363031303332323239#BD00
(bootloader) 8A672BA4746C2CE02328A2AC0C39F95
(bootloader) 1A3E5#1F53280002000000000000000
(bootloader) 0000000
On a Mac OS Desktop, the returned string format would beINFO0A40040192024205#4C4D3556313230

Paste together the 5 lines of output into one continuous string without (bootloader) or ‘INFO’ or white spaces. Your string needs to look like this:


Now copy the Code that you got in command window for your device paste it into the MAKE SURE YOUR DEVICE IS UNLOCKABLE” and click on can my device be unlocked?


If your device eligible then you will receive an email with your unlock key having 20 character alphanumeric code.


13.Now turn off your phone again

14.Connect your phone to computer

15.Now boot into fastboot mode same like before you done

16.Now open folder Android SDK and goto command window same like before

17.Now enter following command in command window

$ fastboot oemunlock UNIQUE_KEY
